Grocery Store Salad Mix Sickens 19
Wegmans leafy green mix linked to e coli outbreak in New York

The salad mix is called "Wegman's Food You Feel Good About Organic Spinach & Spring Mix". Unfortunately, 19 of those who ate it feel less than good about it.
The salad mix, sold at Wegman's grocery stores in upstate New York, may have been contaminated with E.coli. The food-borne bacteria has sickened 19 customers, and the grocery chain is issuing a voluntary recall of 31,000 pounds of the pre-packaged salad.
Dispose of the contaminated product bought between October 14 and November 1.
Eating E. coli-contaminated food can cause severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Infections range from mild to severe.
Most people get better within five to seven days, according to the CDC. But severe cases may be life threatening, especially for the young and elderly.
Five people have been hospitalized so far as a result of this outbreak, and four have already been discharged.
The cases have been limited to the western part of New York, in Monroe, Niagara, Steuben, Erie, and Wayne counties.
On November 1, Wegman's issued a voluntary recall of two sizes of their clamshell packaged spinach and greens mix. The first reported case was on October 25.
The recall is for product sold between October 14 and November 1. The produce originated from a wholesaler called State Garden.
Still, authorities have not yet determined with certainty the cause of this recent E.coli outbreak. All those who were sickened had eaten the salad mix, but it is not definitively conclusive the salad was the source.
