What's Going on in your Body?
Slow down metabolism to avoid accelerated aging

Everyone knows eating a low calorie diet will make you more healthy. Who knew eating a low calorie diet would also affect the aging process?
Researchers may have finally figured out how low calorie diets can positively contribute to healthy aging.
Eating less and reducing stress will keep you healthy.
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease studied metabolic rate in relation to aging. Researchers measured energy expenditure from normal body functions and resting metabolic rate to determine how much these factors affect aging.
Results showed that increased energy expenditure was linked to increased risk for natural mortality. The mechanisms behind the issue are not yet understood.
Researchers suggest that increased normal body function causes toxic substances to increase, which can damage organs prematurely leading to accelerated aging.
Increased energy expenditure does not include exercising. Energy expenditure only refers to the amount of energy being released during normal functions in the body.
The Study
- The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases in Phoenix, Arizona conducted study
- 652 non-diabetic healthy Prima Indian volunteers
- 24 hour Energy Expenditure was measured in 508 volunteers
- Resting metabolic rate (RMR) was measured in 384 volunteers
- Both measurements were taken from 240 volunteers
- While energy expenditure increased, risk for natural mortality increased as well
- The more energy the body produces during normal body functions, the higher the risk for earlier mortality
