No Heart Risk Found for Common Supplements
Calcium, vitamin D supplementation did not appear to endanger the heart

Calcium and vitamin D supplements may not pose a raised risk of heart problems, a new study found.
Many people supplement their diets with calcium and vitamin D to improve bone strength to fight off conditions like osteoporosis. In the past, some experts have raised concern that these supplements might increase the risk of heart problems.
This new study looked at 34,890 UK participants taking calcium supplements, 20,004 taking vitamin D supplements and 10,406 taking both. In all three groups, these University of Southampton researchers found no raised risk of hospital admission for heart attacks or any cardiovascular event.
Among those patients taking calcium or vitamin D who were admitted to the hospital for heart-related reasons, there was no apparent increased risk of death.
This study was published recently in Osteoporosis International.
